PAINTED FURNITURE
I love how we added the glitzy metallic finish to the carved commode and kept the hardware in its vintage state. This smart storage piece greets visitors in the foyer with a twinkle for Danziger Design. The glazed finish was a perfect mix of metallics in colors that made the crystal lamp and catch-all dish shine.
STAIR RAILINGS
What about this antique gold pinstripe on the glazed railing? Just a touch in the stairway can add a beautiful reflection and elevate the interior design of a the stair and hallway. The railing was hand painted with a finish we call Ripple with Farrow and Ball paints. Just the turned bead was painted with the antique gold pinstripe adding just the right touch of elegance.
FABRICS AND TEXTILES
Painted silk shines with metallics. This dupioni silk pattern “Paisley Flame” has been used to catch the breeze as living room window treatments. This pattern is perfect for pillows and has even been used for a luxurious blue throw.
ACCENTS & PINSTRIPES
Gilding and pinstripes are classics on furniture. Here we added metallic to the pinstripe and carved areas of a commode for Transitions. This is one of a pair for a master bedroom. For more about this project, click Classic Glamour with Hand Painted Furniture.
CEILINGS & ARCHITECTURE
Don’t forget the 5th wall. Hand painted ceiling finishes make a room extra special, perfect for a foyer and dining room. The light from the chandelier sparkles against the metallic in a foyer we did for Galileo Group. This technique uses a luscious troweled finish with a patina over-glaze.
PAINTED GLASS
Painted glass is one of our newest favorites. The painted glass pattern above is called Mali, and is based on a design a client showed us from her travels to Africa. We’re loving back painted glass, or eglomise, for table tops and the kitchen backsplash. FANDECKS AND CUSTOM COLORS
There is quite a bit of variety in metallics: true gold and silver leaf, metal leaf, metallic paint, mica powders, and metallic plasters. All shimmering beauties. Imagine having a fandeck of just metallics, like Benjamin Moore or Farrow & Ball, we have them to show you!
All of these can be combined with over-glazes and patterns for a very personal and unique finish.
