The master suite had a wonderful private hall to walk through before entering the bedroom. But hallway design can be a challenge. The solution was to surround the walls with art. To keep the style light and simple we painted the walls with a mural of beautiful botanicals.
So the project was a collaboration with Marika Meyer Interiors. It was a hallway that lead to the master suite. Lovely architecture and light, but not a lot of space to put furniture. The design of the house called for something more simple that let the architecture shine.

Start With The Fabrics
Addressing the walls with a solid paint color wouldn’t work here. So the designer came to us with her fabrics and color palette. The floors are a wonderful fumed oak in that gray color. What did we suggest?
Well, yes. A botanical mural!
The fabric for the window treatments was a luxurious embroidered linen. Lots of visual and textural information for us to work with here.
Finding Inspiration For The Mural Details
Linen has a such a great texture. Instead of painting the artwork directly on the walls which were quite smooth, the mural would be painted onto canvas and installed like wallpaper. This would give the artwork that same linen texture. See how we’re continuing the design here?

Adding A Surprise
The drawing for the hallway design comes first. We measure the walls and draw elevations so we know exactly where each branch should start and stop. We knew we wanted lovebirds on the focal wall to surprise and delight the homeowner once the mural was installed.
