The Whiskey Room is filled with richly colored rugs, velvet upholstered furniture, and warm wood paneled walls. Don’t forget about the ceiling! Leaving the 5th wall in flat white would make the interior design feel incomplete. It’s the perfect place for a mural.
Getting Started
Imagine a fascinating historic stone house, moved from one part of the country stone by stone, to beautiful Chads Ford PA. How do you turn an interesting old stone house into a cool pad for a young, hip, couple looking for a Whiskey Room?
Here’s the before picture. Pretty expected, right?
Don’t Forget The Ceiling
Finishing that cool vibe in a Whiskey Room meant addressing the 5th wall, the ceiling. With deep wood paneled walls, luxurious furniture and rugs, a plain white ceiling wouldn’t do. We went with the unexpected solution of an antique map mural that related to the date of the historic stone home. Hello personality!
Finding Inspiration
Finding inspiration was easy because there was a TON of it! Starting with the age and architecture of the historic stone house. It was ancient! Big log rafters, a fireplace you could stand in. Incredible! After doing a little research we found a few map makers from the time period. We loved thinking about what the original owners of this house would have thought the world looked like. The map layout and style was inspired by these old cartographers.
The fabrics and rug started our color palette. We ended up using less color than we have here in the scaled drawing, but you get the idea.
Making It Personal
See the sea monsters on the drawing? Roberta made them look like sea horses to symbolize the horse business the homeowners owned. Little personal touches like that make a mural more meaningful. For us as well as the homeowner.
