We have some pretty cool projects, but every once in a while we get asked to do a project that has a bit of a story to it.

This week we worked on a mural of the DC metro map. The map was originally designed by graphic designer Lance Wyman in the mid-1970’s. The interesting fact is that he also got to re-design the map with updated information and the proposed future routes. The new map debuted in March of 2012. So painting the mural was sort of timely.
The homeowner, as with many other residents of DC, regularly uses the metro and wanted to include this in part of the design of her home. There is an industrial styled column in her living room that was just the right place for the Metro Map.

There’s always a lot of preliminary work that goes into our projects. Most of that happens in the studio so the homeowner and designer don’t get to see that. In this case, the map needed to be cropped and re-sized so it would focus on the green line.
